Speeding Deterrent

I have a 16 years old son with a new driver's license, and am now informed by Parents Against Speeding Teens P.A.S.T. of the following shocking facts: 32% of all drivers 15-24 years of age involved in fatal crashes were speeding. In 1996, almost one quarter (22%) of those who died in speed-related crashes were youth. Drivers involved in speed related fatal crashes are more likely to have a history of traffic violations. Nearly 40% of male drivers involved in fatal crashes were speeding. These are very serious numbers concerning a very serious matter. I would like to share with you a device that I have adopted that I expect to help in this regard. It is simply a GPS communications tool that will inform me when my car goes over a preset speed or out of preset bounds and even where the car is if I need to know. It will also allow me to disable the starter to keep it from being driven (again after it stops) without my knowledge or approval. Best of all, it is internet based and I can get the information I need from anywhere I have access to the internet (even while I am on vacation in another country). I can also have it call or page me when there are rules violations or other behavior alerts. Trucking companies have been using more expensive similar devices for some time to protect themselves from costly and nonproductive behaviors of their drivers. Due to advances in technology, they are now affordable for the parents of 16 years old children, especially considering the other costs of safe teenage driving, and the value of life. I am attempting to make this device available to any concerned parent who might find that it provides peace of mind, or serves as a deterrent to dangerous driving. I do not currently use it at home because my wife refuses to let her first-born son drive for now; but when he starts, so will the monitoring device. If you think other parents may also want to be similarly prepared, let me know. R. Brisco rbrisco@metronet.com
